An Ode To Dottie Angel

Oh Dottie Angel how I love your cheery, comfy, colorful frocks!
So much I admire them that I will try with all my might to make my own, with my limited sewing skills( as I just snip and sew on the fly) .
I try to wait patiently for that day ( hopefully soon) when your patterns make their grand debut... But alas.. Until then I find that I am constantly tempted at the  Store Ala Fabrique ( totally made that up- aka: The Fabric Store) and all its bolts and bolts of vintagey florals, calicos, and other goody goodnesses !
I finally just give in, purchase my yardage, then carry on to the Casa where I rummage through my stash of real vintage textiles, laces and notions and then plunk down all on the studio floor and let the vision (albeit simple)begin.
Add an unusual pocket made from an old  fabric sample and a wonderful handmade lace collar from my Grammy ( I attached it with snaps for careful wear) and I found I was pleased as punch at my not so pretty as yours but uniquely me and wearable frock of my own. I shall wear it proudly and think of you , and thank you indeed for your inspiring way's and wares.
 Oh so sincerely, Dawn

Brooch Redo

Out of all my jewelry, I definitely wear brooches the least. I use a lot of them in revamped project's. This is an example of an easy redo requested by a friend. Here we have a pretty turquoise blue pin that I simply snipped the pin bracket off (file rough spots if needed). Then I used my trusty E-6000 industrial glue to attach a base with a hoop to attach a jump ring to transform from brooch, to necklace. Finally add your chain and clasp of choice ( I used a really cute lock and key closure). Wouldn't you agree this is more wearable? Happy Friday! Xox

Wedding Signage

Starting now I'm going to be in wedding creative overdrive for my sister in law. So here and there I will try to pop a few of my projects on the ol' blogola!  I've been working on the little signs for the outdoor reception . I used a bundle of wood found thrifting( of course). I gave em a bit of a white wash, and some fun font, and detail's. After all it's all in the detail's right?! Happy Tues!:)

Initially your's

Jewelry with initial's on it has been popular for some time. It's classic and personal, and very, very easy to make a piece for yourself or as a gift. I found some great lower case letters and grabbed all my sisters initials , and one for myself. Also some chain, clasp, and jump rings. If your still worried about your jewelry making skills, the hobby shop has ready made chain's, so you just put initial on jump ring and slide on chain. Either way this project is instant satisfaction! Happy Tuesday!

This one is appropriately for my sister Vintage Honeybee:)

A Cup of Love

While preparing lunch today for a friend, I put the kettle on the stove and took out the components for a nice hot cup o' tea.
Besides my favorite flavor's of Orange, Chamomile , and White Pomegranate , I found some nice loose Cherry Almond.
I had some time to kill so I checked a couple of my fave blogs including my sister Vintage Honeybee, and ironically her post was about DIY tea bag's! Check it out! Well hey say's I, why not? I had an instant take on my own custom tea bag that you could make for a really special cup of tea for your mum, grand mum, or friend .
I'm thinking it would be really great in a get well gift too!
All that was needed was your tea, coffee filter, twine, needle, and a pretty little tag you make to hang out of your steaming cup o' love! I used poetry out of one of my favorite book fair find's, and pretty paper I made and a sparkly sticker. Hints would be to sew stitches close on the tea bag, and sew in a way as to leave a tail to add your tag.
Admittedly it was so cute I didn't want to use it but that's what it's for eh? Whomever you choose to make these for , don't forget yourself! It makes sipping a piping hot cup that much sweeter! Xo Dawn

Here's the supplie's I used. Cut out your shape, and sew, leaving an opening to fill with tea, then sew shut.

Recycled leather collar

I was just about to get rid of an old leather men's jacket, and as I had it in hand, I got a wild hair to cut off the collar, and make something fun. Along with my stash of vintage rhinestone jewelry, some finding's, and a wee bit o' sewing, this is what I came up with. The leather is soft but has that rock n' edge, and I have been wanting to use this bow piece for some time. Maybe I'll wear it to the Rock n' Roll Craft show on Sunday!

One buck infinity scarves

When my sister Rachel and my nieces come over for some hang out time, we alway's try to accomplish something art and or crafty.
This time I found some fabric on clearance for one buckarooney a yard and thought: Perfect to try an infinity scarf! What to lose? Who cares if we mess up, it's only a dollar! Well I gotta tell ya, we were pretty sassy to think we would just whip em out in 20 min. It seems simple but we goofed a couple times to get that circle effect.
Of course I never use patterns, I just think it through. ..Don't overthink, because that's when we had to redo. It turned out, finally!I really liked the pattern, and weight of my sister's the most. But if anyone know's a better mouse trap for these babies, please share!:-0 hope your weekend is just what you needed!

I like quirky jewelry. And when I saw a odd yet cute component at the craft store, I could not resist making myself a little ol' necklace. And here she be! Happy Wed!:)

Diy Oversized slouch shirt

Sorry I have been slow to post this week:(! Busy , but I managed to get a just for me project done.
With cooler temps around the corner, I have wanted to make an oversized long sleeved shirt with the neck cut to slouch off your shoulder..( very Flashdance!)
And I wanted it comfy to wear with leggings.
I snagged a cheap 7.99 men's T from Wally World and with my scissors, Tulip Soft Fabric paint's, a foam roller, and my hand carved " I 've got my eye on you stamp's" I came up with this. Eye am in love with the results.. Heh heh!

Happy Thursday!!

On a whim...

... I decided to whip up( and I do mean whip up) a little custom pouch for a nice set of bamboo chopstick's for my sister who loves Chinese food .

You see I bought her a fab lunch bag with a delightful illustration by an artist I love, and I wanted to add some fun accessories to make her feel that much more special and loved( dabbing tissue to eye) I will share it all when I give to her.

Anyhoo, the story behind the chopstick's is that her husband doesn't like Chinese food ., what the !!!?@!, and so she hardly has any.

Soooo I figured hang em! Have it at lunch with her new chopstick's to encourage her!
She just started this new job that she loves ,that helps those in need, and again I want her to know how proud I alway's am of her!
Well I hope you are all having a lovely weekend . I gotta go tell my little sister not to read this post or she will spoil the suprise!:) Dawn

Feelin crafty

Over the weekend, I went to a baby shower for some sweet friend's. And being their first, it was really special, and I wanted to make something fun, and possibly keepsake-ish.

The theme was "little man", so mustache decoration's were abundant.  Also in keeping with theme, I decided to get my wood burner out, and make some hand made toy's, and a decorative whale for Little Man's room, which I was informed has the nautical look.

After painting with non toxic paint, I loved the result's and was itching to do more! And here's my little lovlie's all nestled in their little cello bag waiting for mini man to come out and play!  How was your weekend?
Ahoy! Thar be whale's ahead!!
And they all got along swimmingly..
