Trying to eat summertime simple

When summer time heat starts to kick in ( it was 96 today with our yucky humidity, then we start eating more light , and fresh fare. I start to crave the fresh fruits and veggies at our local farmers market. And friends fresh egg's are a welcome addition to make my easy frittata 's, and scrambled huevo's to wrap in sheets of seaweed with avocado and sriracha . I am also enjoying my fresh herb's I'm growing, and eager to see my veggie garden bear it's gifts of carrot's , zucchini, five wonderful colors and types of heirloom tomato's ( if the squirrels leave em alone) Japanese eggplant, green onions, and radicchio . Oh and bok choy, ( I like saying bok choy)and you better believe we have been eating one of our favorites: bacon lettuce and tomato sandwiches!
Feel free to share any simple summer favorites you have, and happy almost weekend!

Sock Bun Curl's

I have had long hair most of my life. I feel sorta like Samson.. If you cut off my hair I'll lose my strength! It's the only thing I really like about myself so I try to keep it healthy, and rarely use a blow dryer , curling, or flat iron on it. I am always game new non damaging ways to give body, or curl so when I saw the sock bun on Pinterest I thought , why not  what the   Hey? I gotta say, I was more than impressed with the amazing curls I got when I unrolled the bun.  It was literally the top cut off my sons dress sock that I simply pulled over my damped pony tail, and roll and tucked my hair on down till it formed a large donut bun on top of my head. I slept on it then took it down the next day right before I went out. I just fingered through it and gave it a light spray, and it held wonderfully well. Hope you try it for yourself!! Happy Tues!!

My Style Leather Attaché

As you may have read, over the weekend I snagged this totally serviceable vintage leather Attaché bag for one little dollar bill, so I didn't mind making it distinctly my style. I simply  added  a bit of lace to it by applying and sealing with Mod Podge. Once  dried there you have it! Happy Monday, can't wait till Friday already!!

Garage Sales and Thrift Stores

Tis the season for garage sales, and I finally got my fix and hit a few with some sweet finds. And after they closed up for the day I also visited the thrift store on the way home and found some great 1970's fabric to hopefully make some simple dresses inspired by the ones made by the Brilliant Brit: Dottie Angel.

I used to shop for whatever struck my fancy, but learned that's why you need to have your own sale after years of that kind of shopping. Now I generally look for specific item's for projects etc.
My sweet little ol postcard man called me to say he was having his sale, and I found more flowers for my blooming wall in my foyer.
I'm still on the hunt for vintage camping gear. I also am on the lookout for long old benches, and Rocco style 70's chairs to redo. I guess that means more shopping! Durn!
Top of the weekend to ya! Xo

My typical garaging/thrifting uniform

The two floral's are thin and flowy, and the tiny rose spray remind's me of my first day of school undershirt my mom bought me for kindergarten.

I can't believe the vintage purse on top was 25 cent's, and the rockin vintage leather attache  was $1.00! Oh I can't wait to do remodel it for myself:)

Lovely hankies, and handmade gold trim on an old bobbin.

A fantastic overnight vintage satin pajama envelope!

A couple old Pepsi ad's.

A beauty of a picture and hand mottled frame for my guest bath!

When you can't go to Paris...

The next best thing is to have the sweetest friends who bring you back a present when They go to Paris! After all you can only pack so much. Indeed a true gesture of thoughtfulness! Happy Friday and a wonderful weekend to you all around the world! It's a hot one in the MidWest! Xo Dawn
Who can't use another tote? And how bout my unintended shadow puppet's? haha

I'm no Sophia Vergara...

...but I did get my summer cut based on her pic, and thought I'd give her a run for her money !! Ha! I know, I know , but hey I can dream right?

Then I asked my hairdresser if she could make my physique look like her's too, but since she didn't have a magic wand it was a no go.

I must say albeit I am a thrifty girl I have learned you can't skimp on a good haircut, as one of my good friends alway's  says "you get what you pay for",and that is certainly true with haircuts.
I wish I would have saved the last $12 coupon haircut I had, that was so hideous ( I know you just thought of Nacho Libre) that it literally looked like the gal took a weed wacker to it.... I wept..and learned my lesson.

Oooh hey,the other hair tip I shall share is that I used Loreal Root Rescue, and it worked brilliantly for touching up roots and even covered the better portion of the cap of my hair, and matched my salon color beautifully . So whether you go for the Sophia, or the Marilyn go for a sassy something special just for you! Happy Wed! Dawn

Hello, remember me?

Wow that was a long , long, blog break, but frankly I think I needed a breather. I was so involved in projects, wedding's, baby showers , company, etc, that I would crash when it was the end of the day. And now we are into summer break, where the days are crammed with activities, and company for my kiddo, regular work, and tall glasses of iced tea and chilled watermelon! So thank you to all who pop in for visit, I'm still alive (heheh), and ready to post! Here's a wonderful and atypical picture of a Native American mother and child with such endearing looks of love on their faces, I just had to share. I find it beautiful, and would love to paint this,...Happy Tuesday, and happy to be back. Xo
